Today’s episode is a friendly reminder that you are not alone. A lot of times, we go through difficult situations in life and we keep quiet about them because we are scared of being judged, laughed at or discriminated. I have been in situations which felt very difficult and choking until I opened my mouth and talked with people that I trust and feel comfortable with. After talking about these situations, I felt like a burden has been lifted off my shoulders. I felt relieved and sometimes, I realize that the situation was not as complicated as I made it to be in my head.
Sometimes, we allow little worries or little bad feelings grow muscles and wings in our head just because we are ashamed of talking about them. We feel that those worries and feelings are weird and we are the only ones that could possibly be having them, but I’ve learnt that no matter how unique our experiences or paths could be, there are people who have or are still treading a similar path. Most times, it could be difficult to find the right people or the right help, but if we do not speak up, if we do not let go of the assumption that no one is interested in us, we might never be able to find help, find companionship or heal from injuries.
Why don’t we try out an exercise? Just take a minute, stand in front of a mirror or even better, you can just make use of the front camera of your smartphone. Look at yourself and smile. Do you see how gorgeous you are? Look at your lovely self and tell yourself, „You are not alone“! Now, take a selfie and send it to me on Instagram.
With over 7 billion people on planet earth and the daily hustling and bustling, we could find ourselves isolated or alone in our corner of this world. We could feel like we are alone in our struggles or daily life because no one checks up on us or makes time for us. If you feel this way, I would like to tell you that you are not alone.
A lot of times, we get caught up in the fast wheel of time with seconds rolling into the minutes into hours into days into weeks into months and into years. We keep running to ensure that we meet up with deadlines, appointments and various commitments to the extent that we ignore our personal life and those of our loved ones. Then at a point when the night comes or just for a breath, we realize that a lot of wonderful relationships that we nurtured in the past have been neglected to die. If you feel this way, I would like to tell you that you are not alone.
It could be quite helpful to spare a minute, pick up the phone and talk with a loved one or two. It could be helpful to send a message to that old friend just to check up on them because you never can tell what they are going through and how much your phone call or message could help or save them. I’m learning about the importance of being around people that you can easily and confidently talk with, a community, a friend or group of friends that you can support and that provides a backbone or support system for you.
Time over time, I am reassured that I am not alone because in Joshua 1:9 the Bible says, “This is my command–be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” And also in Matthew 28:20 it says, “And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” This also reminds me of the undying, undiscriminating und undiluted love that God has for us all.
Thank you for listening and remember that I love you, I see you and I appreciate you.
